I’ve been watching anime long enough to remember when a character sporting that loose side-ponytail was a guaranteed death sentence. Back in the day, moms existed for one reason: to get killed off by episode three so the protagonist had an excuse to be edgy.
Thankfully, the industry grew up. The moms we get now aren’t just background tragedy fodder; they carry entire shows. But let’s get one thing straight before we start: there is a massive difference between being a top-tier character and actually being a good mother. Sometimes the most iconic, flawlessly designed characters are, frankly, walking disasters when it comes to parenting.
Here’s my ranking of the anime moms who completely stole the spotlight.
1. Yor Forger (Spy x Family)
Look, the internet ran the Yor memes into the ground, but she still holds up. Her character design is flawless, and the contrast between a lethal assassin and a perpetually panicking wife works perfectly. But I have to say, as someone who actually knows their way around a kitchen, watching her near a cutting board gives me physical anxiety. It’s a literal health hazard. Still, her maternal instincts carry the comedy, making her the undisputed favorite right now.
I think dekus mom should be on here as well and the mom from a silent voice also that lady was a god send to her son 😭
